Through some awesome nanny friends, I recently discovered Nanny Magazine. It's for nannies by nannies. Although they aren't officially launching until January 2014, they're already active on places like Facebook and Twitter. They're also currently accepting submissions for articles. You never know, you may see an article by me in there one day.
I have to say, I really am thrilled that this exists. Mainly through twitter, I have come to know a group of awesome ladies who are also nannies. It's great to be able to have other people to talk to who understand that you have practically no adult interaction through out the day. There's not many people out there who also understand how exhausting it can be to take care of a child's (or multiple children's) every emotional and physical need 40+ hours a week. On top of just meeting their basic needs, nannies also teach their charges which can be a whole separate job in itself. People in other professions tend to just not quite get what it's like. That said, no one else gets how absolutely amazingly rewarding it can be. You get to see first steps, hear first words, and see them meet milestones that you know they worked so hard to reach. And that random "just because" hug we get in the middle of the day, well that pretty much beats anything.
I'm excited to see a publication specifically made for and made by fellow nannies (both some who I know and slme I don't) who live the life I live and that will include issues that I deal with each day. Be sure to check them out! And, if you're interested be sure to submit an article or photo!
